Driving Change in the Ever-Evolving Landscape of Saudi Arabia

Driving Change: Saudi Women Shaping the Future of Advertising

Driving Change Through Saudi Vision 2030

Saudi Arabia is experiencing a remarkable transformation, and women are playing an increasingly important role in shaping its future. Guided by Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom has introduced economic and social reforms that are expanding professional opportunities, encouraging entrepreneurship, and strengthening women’s participation across industries.

As a female CEO in the advertising industry, I have had the privilege of witnessing this transformation firsthand. What makes this period particularly meaningful is not simply the number of opportunities being created, but how Saudi women are using them to lead, innovate, and contribute to the country’s development.

Vision 2030 represents an important shift in how we approach economic growth, talent development, and inclusion. For marketing and advertising, it has created an environment where new perspectives, local expertise, and creative thinking are increasingly valued.

And Saudi women are helping drive that change.

Redefining the Saudi Workforce

One of the most significant indicators of progress is the growing participation of women in Saudi Arabia’s workforce.

According to the National Transformation Program’s 2022 Annual Report, the economic participation rate of Saudi women aged 15 and above increased from 17% in 2017 to 37% in 2022.

Women’s share of the Saudi labor force also increased from 21.2% to 34.7% during the same period.

These figures represent more than economic growth. They reflect changing expectations, expanding opportunities, and the increasing recognition of women’s professional capabilities.

Leadership representation has also improved considerably.

The proportion of women in middle and senior management positions increased from 28.6% in 2017 to 41.1% in 2022. By 2024, that figure had reached 43.8%.

For the advertising industry, greater female participation in leadership brings valuable perspectives to creative strategies, brand communication, and business decisions.

An industry built around understanding people benefits when the teams developing its ideas reflect the diversity of the audiences they serve.

Transformative Milestones in Women’s Economic Participation

Since the launch of Vision 2030 in 2016, Saudi Arabia has introduced initiatives aimed at improving women’s access to employment, professional development, and entrepreneurship.

These changes have helped women pursue careers across sectors that were previously more difficult to enter, including technology, finance, healthcare, and creative industries.

The progress is also visible in business ownership.

According to the National Transformation Program, the proportion of small and medium-sized enterprises owned by women increased from 22.5% in 2017 to 45% in 2022.

This development is particularly encouraging because entrepreneurship gives women opportunities not only to participate in the economy, but also to create employment, develop businesses, and introduce new ideas to the market.

In advertising, the growth of independent agencies and specialized creative companies is helping diversify the industry.

Saudi women are contributing as strategists, designers, entrepreneurs, communications professionals, and business leaders, demonstrating that creative talent can become a powerful driver of economic development.

Driving Change in Marketing and Advertising

The marketing and advertising industry offers a particularly interesting perspective on the changes taking place in Saudi Arabia.

As the Kingdom develops its tourism, entertainment, technology, and cultural sectors, businesses require increasingly sophisticated communication strategies.

This creates opportunities for local agencies to build brands, tell authentic stories, and connect businesses with audiences in Saudi Arabia and internationally.

For women working in this field, the possibilities extend far beyond traditional advertising roles.

Digital transformation has introduced opportunities in content creation, brand strategy, digital experiences, marketing technology, and creative entrepreneurship.

Having worked in advertising for many years, I have seen how important it is to develop an industry that recognizes talent, encourages collaboration, and welcomes different perspectives.

The success of our sector depends on creativity, but creativity cannot thrive without opportunities for people to contribute their ideas.

Greater female participation strengthens our ability to innovate and respond to an increasingly dynamic marketplace.

Education and Professional Development as Foundations for Success

Creating opportunities is an essential first step, but ensuring women have the skills and support to benefit from them is equally important.

Education, training, professional mentorship, and leadership development remain fundamental to sustainable progress.

Saudi Arabia has introduced programs designed to strengthen women’s professional capabilities and improve access to employment.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has highlighted initiatives supporting leadership training, flexible employment, transportation, and childcare.

These measures address practical challenges that can influence women’s ability to enter the workforce and develop long-term careers.

In marketing and advertising, continuous learning is particularly important.

Technology changes rapidly, consumer expectations evolve, and creative professionals must constantly develop new capabilities.

Investing in women’s education and training allows them to participate confidently in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, data-driven marketing, digital strategy, and innovation.

It also prepares the next generation to take on greater responsibilities within their organizations.

Building a Culture of Inclusion and Leadership

While statistics demonstrate progress, meaningful empowerment must also be reflected in workplace culture.

Companies have a responsibility to create environments where employees are evaluated according to their capabilities, contributions, and potential.

For women, this includes access to leadership opportunities, professional development, fair recognition, and the support needed to balance personal and professional responsibilities.

As a female CEO, I believe leadership also involves creating opportunities for others.

When women advance into decision-making positions, they can mentor younger professionals, encourage new talent, and help build more inclusive organizations.

This benefits businesses as much as it benefits individuals.

Diverse leadership teams bring different experiences and ideas to the table, encouraging constructive discussion and more thoughtful approaches to business challenges.

In an industry that depends on originality, these qualities are particularly valuable.

Driving Change for the Next Generation

The progress Saudi women have achieved deserves recognition, but it should also motivate us to continue building on these developments.

The next generation of women entering marketing and advertising will encounter an industry very different from the one many of us experienced at the beginning of our careers.

They will have access to emerging technologies, expanding professional networks, and opportunities to establish businesses with international ambitions.

Our responsibility is to ensure that this progress continues through education, mentorship, collaboration, and equal access to professional opportunities.

We must also encourage women to pursue leadership positions, develop their entrepreneurial ideas, and recognize the value of their contributions.

A Future Shaped Together

Saudi Vision 2030 has provided a framework for expanding women’s economic participation and strengthening the Kingdom’s creative industries.

Yet lasting progress depends on the collective efforts of government institutions, businesses, industry leaders, and individuals.

As a woman leading an advertising group during this transformative period, I remain inspired by the ambition, determination, and creativity of Saudi women.

Their achievements demonstrate what becomes possible when talent meets opportunity.

Driving change is not only about celebrating how far we have come. It is about ensuring that the opportunities we create today become the foundations on which future generations can build.

Together, we can continue shaping a marketing and advertising industry where women have the opportunity to lead, innovate, and contribute to Saudi Arabia’s future.
