Are you letting your heart sing?
However, this is a powerfully loaded question that deserves some unpacking here.
What Makes Your Heart Sing?
Simply ask yourself!
So, what does it mean to let your heart sing? Think of a time when you have been in your glory. It could have been a particular ‘me time’: watching the sunset, in a certain job, relationship, a song you sang, a book you read, or a place you have visited. It could be spending time with family, friends, hobbies, playing with pets, hiking in the mountains, swimming in the ocean, walking on the beach, feeling the warm sand under your feet, sipping coffee while watching the sunrise, listening to music, watching the sun set, relaxing in the bath…
Similarly, think back to your childhood- what were you doing when you were most happy?
In addition, think about your 5 senses: sight, hearing, touch, feel, taste. You could come out with one joy for each sense.
When Your Soul Finds Its Rhythm
Meanwhile, these moments typically engage you in the flow of creatively expressing something you are deeply passionate about. It’s as though your body, heart, mind, and soul are in a personal harmonic convergence and you can feel your heart smiling.
For me, I’ve come to recognize that my heart sings best when I am walking on the beach, watching the sunset, feeling the warm breeze, playing with kids, or spending time with my daughter. It also happens when I am effectively being of service and able to help people out.
And what about you?
Listening to What Your Heart Needs
First, get a pen and paper & write down all the things in your life that put a smile on your face. Once you have identified one or several strong examples of you at your best, ask yourself some of the following questions:
What did it feel like in your heart? Soul? Mind? Body?
What specifically do you need to be, do, or have to make your heart sing?
Therefore, if your heart rarely or never sings, here are some things you might want to do:
- Listen deeply to yourself
- Be mindful of living from the inside out
- Dare to sing
- Set clear intentions
- Focus your attention on your intentions
Next, get a pen and paper & write down all the things in your life that put a smile on your face &make your heart sing. The list is long, write them all! Notice the list, these things that make your heart sing are EASY and inexpensive or free, so why aren’t you doing them more often? Pin that list somewhere where you will see it everyday.
Finally, take action, Plan on doing some of that list on a weekly basis.
Your well-being and joy depend on it!
