Revealing the Inspiration, Unique Identity, and Luxury of Jolia: A Q&A with the Founder, Liana Haddad
The Inspiration Behind Jolia
Q: What inspired you to create Jolia?
A: The inspiration behind creating Jolia came from witnessing the summer exhibitions. There, I saw incredible handmade talents from the Lebanese people. Sadly, the market had overlooked these artisans entirely.
Why? Because multiple factors held them back. First, they lacked funding. Second, they didn’t use modern technology. Third, they had insufficient knowledge about the fashion industry.
Consequently, they struggled to stay up to date with current market trends. They also found it difficult to maintain high-quality materials within tight budget constraints. Furthermore, they lacked branding expertise.
So, all these challenges combined pushed me to take action. I wanted to design the bags for them. I also wanted to create a brand that would hire unemployed individuals.
Therefore, whenever you make a purchase from Jolia, you will support small businesses with big talents. That’s the heart of the brand.
Why Beads and Crochet?
Q: Why did you choose to adopt beads and crochets into your designs?
A: Since the pandemic, a clear trend has emerged in the market. People love crochet and beads. So, I decided to adopt these materials into my designs.
Why did this trend take off? Because everyone was working from home. These materials were easily accessible. People could craft from their living rooms.
Additionally, I believe this trend is here to stay. It’s not a fleeting moment. For Jolia, we use elements of modern classic designs. Then, we apply traditional techniques to produce them.
For example, many luxury brands like Chloe, Karl Lagerfeld, and Stella are now copying this exact style of handmade products. However, they apply it to their factories. Jolia does the opposite. We keep it authentic and artisanal.
How Jolia Stands Against Mass Production
Q: How does Jolia balance itself in a market that prioritizes mass-produced fashion?
A: Jolia differentiates itself from mass production because we embrace slow fashion. We use traditional techniques to create modern designs. Our goal? To make timeless pieces that never go out of style.
We do everything handmade using purely raw materials. This process takes more effort. It also takes more time compared to factory-produced bags and mass production.
So, we have less supply. We are not as quick as fast fashion brands. But that’s exactly what makes our bags more valuable.
During this time, we must respect the lives of the artists who create these bags. They pour their skill and soul into every piece.
Now, people spend money with purpose. They don’t just shop for the sake of shopping. They shop with intention. Jolia exists for those conscious customers.
What Makes Jolia Truly Unique
Q: What sets Jolia apart from other brands that sell handmade products?
A: I would say Jolia sets itself apart in several ways.
First, our designs are timeless. We don’t chase every trend. Second, we focus on what’s sustainable within the market. We balance beauty with responsibility.
Third, we help people while creating value for the market. We make sure to use the best materials. In fact, you cannot find these materials in many places.
For instance, we import crystals for our designs. We use them because we are slowly trying to become part of the eco-friendly environment. Every choice moves us toward sustainability.
Additionally, we write stories about each artist who produces the bags. Why? Because we want the customer to relate to the product they purchase. That connection between the artist and the client makes the experience feel much more personalized.
Furthermore, with our bags, you can customize them to your liking. You can change the handle. You can pick the color you want from our options.
We also name our bags after districts in Lebanon. Batroun, Starco, Faqra, Rome, Bliss Street. These names make you feel more interconnected with Lebanon.
Ultimately, Jolia is like a love story. It’s a love letter to Lebanese craftsmanship, to sustainability, and to you.
