The Human Side of Leadership and Transformation

With 15 years of international experience across HR, Talent Management, Organizational Development, and executive coaching, Alexandra Popkova has built her career around a question that sits at the heart of every meaningful transition: how can people evolve with their circumstances while remaining connected to who they are?

For Alexandra Popkova, leadership has never been simply about titles, performance metrics, or organizational structures. Instead, her work explores the human side of transformation: how people make decisions when the path ahead is unclear, how leaders grow into unfamiliar responsibilities, and how individuals adapt to new cultures without allowing change to erase their sense of identity.

Today, Alexandra brings together extensive corporate leadership experience with more than 1,700 hours of coaching, supporting executives, entrepreneurs, expatriates, and leadership teams navigating professional and personal transitions. As a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) accredited by the International Coaching Federation, a Master Intelligent Leadership® Executive Coach, and a Certified Embodiment Coach, she combines structured leadership development with a deeply human understanding of change.

Alexandra Popkova: A Career Shaped by Movement

Alexandra’s story began in Vladivostok, Russia, but her professional journey quickly became international. Over the years, she has lived and worked across Russia, India, Bahrain, Nicaragua, and Colombia, while collaborating with leaders and organizations across more than 35 countries.

That constant movement gave her more than international exposure; it shaped the way she understands leadership itself. Every culture brings its own expectations around communication, authority, relationships, decision-making, and success. Consequently, leaders working across borders often have to learn a delicate balance: adapting to their environment without abandoning the qualities that make their leadership authentic.

Alexandra has experienced that challenge firsthand, both personally and professionally. Her career has taken her through multinational corporations, NGOs, rapidly scaling businesses, and entrepreneurial environments, often placing her in organizations at moments of significant growth or transformation.

In many cases, she entered roles where there was no established blueprint. A function needed to be created, a growing workforce needed structure, or a leadership system had to catch up with the pace of expansion. Rather than inheriting finished frameworks, she built them.

Her experience includes developing competency frameworks, career architectures, succession planning systems, talent review processes, leadership programs, performance frameworks, and learning strategies. She has also supported organizations managing workforces ranging from hundreds to more than 25,000 employees, giving her experience at both the individual and enterprise level.

When HR Becomes a Question of People

Over time, Alexandra’s corporate career revealed something fundamental: organizational transformation rarely succeeds through systems alone.

A new structure may look perfect on paper, yet its success ultimately depends on the people expected to operate within it. Likewise, a succession plan matters only when leaders are prepared to step into the roles waiting for them. A cultural transformation becomes meaningful only when people change how they think, communicate, and make decisions.

That realization gradually brought coaching to the center of Alexandra’s work.

Rather than separating executive coaching from organizational consulting, she approaches them as complementary disciplines. Her organizational experience allows her to understand the business context surrounding a leadership challenge, while coaching creates the space for leaders to examine their own assumptions, behaviors, priorities, and choices.

Today, Alexandra serves as Cross-Regional Coaching Director at John Mattone Global, where she works across international markets on executive coaching, leadership effectiveness, cultural transformation, and organizational development. She also continues to advise organizations and senior leaders on people strategy, organizational alignment, succession readiness, and leadership development.

Her approach is particularly relevant to leaders operating in environments where the old answers no longer fit the new reality.

The Leadership Question Beneath the Leadership Question

At the center of Alexandra’s philosophy lies the idea of identity.

Career advancement, relocation, entrepreneurship, organizational change, and leadership transitions may appear to be very different experiences. Yet, beneath each one sits a similar challenge: a person must learn how to operate differently without feeling that they have to become someone entirely different.

Alexandra Popkova often illustrates this through the image of a puzzle.

Growth does not necessarily require throwing away everything that came before. Some pieces still belong exactly where they are; others may need to shift, while entirely new pieces enter the picture. The final image can look different without becoming unrecognizable.

This perspective reflects Alexandra’s own multicultural journey. Living between cultures has allowed her to recognize that different parts of her personality become more visible in different environments.

She has playfully described these dimensions as her “Inner Latina,” her “Global Executive Superwoman,” and “Ms. Russian Directness.” Each one represents a different influence: the warmth and relational perspective she developed through Latin American culture, the strategic and internationally minded executive who thrives on complexity, and the directness and decisiveness associated with her Russian roots.

Rather than seeing these identities as contradictory, Alexandra has learned to use each intentionally. The goal is not to suppress one side in favor of another, but to understand when each quality serves the situation while keeping a consistent set of values underneath.

That lesson has become central to her work with clients.

Alexandra Popkova: Helping Leaders Find Their Voice

For Alexandra, authentic leadership does not mean behaving identically in every environment. Instead, it means understanding what remains non-negotiable while becoming flexible enough to respond intelligently to different people, cultures, and circumstances.

This becomes particularly important for expatriates and internationally mobile professionals. Relocating to another country can challenge far more than a person’s logistics. It can affect confidence, relationships, professional identity, communication style, and even the way success is defined.

Having navigated several international transitions herself, Alexandra brings personal experience to this work alongside her professional training. She understands that cultural adaptation is not simply about learning new customs; it is also about discovering how to remain grounded while everything familiar changes around you.

Her coaching also focuses on women navigating leadership transitions. Alexandra supports women who want to develop greater confidence, express their perspectives more clearly, and step into leadership without feeling compelled to imitate someone else’s definition of authority.

Ultimately, her goal is not to give clients a script for how to lead. Instead, she helps them understand their own voice well enough to use it with greater clarity and intention.

Building What Does Not Yet Exist

One of the most distinctive threads in Alexandra Popkova ’s professional history is her ability to enter situations where the solution has not yet been designed.

Throughout her corporate career, she repeatedly joined fast-growing organizations that needed new functions, stronger leadership systems, or scalable people practices. She has built Learning and Development departments, created leadership development frameworks, established talent processes, redesigned performance systems, and supported organizations through rapid expansion and acquisition.

At Concentrix, for example, her regional work involved supporting a major workforce transition from approximately 10,000 to 25,000 employees, alongside large-scale learning and digital adoption initiatives. Earlier in her career, she supported organizational growth from 300 to 3,000 employees, while building leadership and onboarding systems capable of keeping pace with that expansion.

At Accedo Technologies, she led enterprise-wide Organizational Development initiatives for a global workforce of approximately 5,000 employees, managing a team of 40 professionals and working across areas including organizational effectiveness, performance, learning, talent management, culture, internal communications, and employee development.

These experiences help explain the practical dimension of Alexandra’s coaching philosophy. She understands that transformation is not an abstract concept. It involves deadlines, people, competing priorities, difficult conversations, imperfect information, and decisions that cannot always wait for certainty.

Alexandra Popkova: From Practitioner to Mentor

Alexandra’s work now extends beyond coaching individual leaders and advising organizations. She also contributes to the development of the coaching profession itself.

She serves as faculty within international coaching programs, teaching and mentoring aspiring coaches around the world. Her academic and professional development includes a postgraduate qualification in Coaching and HR from Universidad Europea del Atlántico in Spain, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in History of Arts from Saint Petersburg State University.

Her professional certifications include Professional Certified Coach (PCC) through the International Coaching Federation, Master Intelligent Leadership® Executive Coach, and Certified Embodiment Coach.

She also works with a range of leadership and organizational assessment tools, including STLI-360, CTRA-40, MLEI®, CPI 260®, IOPT, 5CCA, and LeaderWatch®, allowing her to incorporate structured assessment into leadership development when appropriate.

Beyond formal coaching engagements, Alexandra Popkova has shared her expertise through educational programs, speaking engagements, interviews, podcasts, and publications. Her topics frequently explore the intersection of leadership, identity, cultural adaptation, organizational transformation, women in leadership, and international business.

Her experience has also taken her into academic settings, including teaching within a specialization program for faculty members at Universidad Nacional de Jaén in Peru, and speaking at CESA – Colegio de Estudios Superiores de Administración in Colombia on cross-cultural communication and international business relationships.

A Global Perspective, With a Human Center

Alexandra’s international career has given her exposure to different organizations, cultures, leadership styles, and business environments. Yet, beneath all those experiences, her work continues to return to something deeply human.

Change can create uncertainty. Leadership can challenge identity. Relocation can unsettle belonging. Growth can require people to let go of familiar ways of operating.

However, Alexandra’s perspective suggests that transformation does not have to mean losing oneself in the process.

Instead, meaningful growth can involve becoming more deliberate about which parts of oneself to strengthen, which assumptions to reconsider, and which values to carry forward.

That philosophy also captures the evolution of Alexandra’s own career. She moved from international NGO and corporate HR environments into organizational development, talent strategy, executive coaching, and cultural transformation. Each chapter added another piece to the picture rather than replacing what came before.

Today, as she continues her international work and prepares for her next professional chapter in the GCC, with the UAE among her preferred destinations, Alexandra brings together the lessons of those different chapters into one distinctive practice.

She works with people and organizations when the road ahead is complicated, when certainty is limited, and when the usual solutions no longer seem sufficient.

And perhaps that is where her approach is most relevant: not in helping people become someone else, but in helping them understand who they are well enough to grow into what comes next.

For Alexandra Popkova, leadership is ultimately not about choosing between adaptability and authenticity.

It is about learning how to hold both.
