Hala Kmeid: From Legal Roots to Tech Heights. Driven by a Belief for Growth

Hala Kmeid: From Legal Eagle to Global Tech President

Hala Kmeid

A Career Built on Foundations of Law

Hala Kmeid’s professional roots run deep in the legal field. Her expertise includes a Master’s degree in Private Law from Université Saint-Joseph and a certificate in Strategic Project Management from Harvard University’s Division of Continuing Education. For over 13 years, she served as a Legal Consultant at Naufal Law Firm. She handled matters ranging from commercial agreements and company acquisitions to complex litigation and arbitration before Lebanese courts.

From there, her legal career expanded into the corridors of power. She served as Parliamentary Legal Advisor to the Lebanese Parliament, where she worked closely with the Commission on the Rights of Women and Children, cooperating on legislation and specific law projects. Following that, she took on the role of Legal Advisor to the CEO at Orascom Telecom Lebanon (Alfa). She provided strategic legal counsel to the executive board on contracts, litigation, and regulatory matters.

Throughout it all, Kmeid has carried a deep sense of purpose rooted in resilience. “I believe in destiny and in the fact that everything happens for a reason,” she reflects. “Losing both of my parents the same year taught me how to grow independent and rely on myself to handle future responsibilities.”

The Bridge between Law and Technology

The pivotal shift came unexpectedly. Kmeid met BarCloud’s CEO through a relative who needed someone to run the company’s EMEA region. “I love challenges, and the fact that I come from a very different background added to it,” she explains. “Being a lawyer gave me a very strong basis to start with, especially the legal reasoning that helps a lot in management positions”.

That challenge quickly evolved. She started as President for the EMEA region in 2016 and rose to Global President in 2018. Today, she oversees all aspects of Engineering, Sales, Support, and QA at BarCloud. Her leadership has delivered measurable results: she built a team of 15 Software Engineers, managed the Sales Team to deliver quarterly targets, and drove a customer service support system that reduced complaints by 30%. She also directs BarCloud’s International Legal Team, keeping one foot firmly in her original profession.

Hala Kmeid, advocating for Women, Then and Now

Kmeid’s time at the Lebanese Parliament wasn’t just a resume line; it was deeply personal. Working with the Parliamentary Commission on the Rights of Women and Children, she helped put forward bills on issues that remain central to gender equality in Lebanon. These included efforts to grant Lebanese women the right to pass nationality to their children, the Domestic Violence Act, and proposed reforms to the Law of Civil Marriage.

Yet despite these efforts, she remains acutely aware of the barriers that persist. “Politics plays a big role in the legal field in our country,” she notes. “Maybe getting more women involved in legislation and key positions will help solve some unjust practices.”

When asked what one piece of legislation. She would introduce further gender balance. Her answer is immediate: “The right of Lebanese women to nationalize their children when born to foreign fathers”.

Hala Kmeid: Leadership through Empathy and Independence

Kmeid’s leadership style is shaped by resilience and a clear-eyed understanding of what motivates people. She credits her mother as her greatest role model: “I built my personality around the strength she gave me since my youngest age”.

Her approach to leadership balances authority with relationship-building. For her, it is not about being popular, it is about earning trust. “As a Leader, it is not necessary to be popular. There is this balance you have to create between being a Leader and building relationships with your employees,” she explains. “The most challenging part is how you can trust your employees and keep them motivated all the time.”

Beyond internal team dynamics, she also looks outward for wisdom. In fact, she identifies two essential traits for success in the technology sector, quoting her CEO’s advice: “Be a pioneer and have the vision of the specific needs and key insights of the different industries,” and “Innovate, Innovate and Innovate to always be ahead.”

She also champions women’s inclusion in tech for practical reasons: “Creating diversity in opinions that brings greater Returns on investment. A different way of seeing things always leads to a better performance”.

The Cherry on Top: Making a Difference

Under her leadership, BarCloud has distinguished itself as the only solution that combines both Asset Tracking and Inventory Management, serving thousands of customers across industries from Education and Military to Healthcare and Government. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Health Departments and Government Entities in Washington DC, used the company’s Enterprise License to track supplies across hospitals and warehouses during the crisis.

But for Kmeid, her proudest achievements remain deeply personal: “Being the mom of 2 children and the Global President of ASAP Systems”.

What’s Next for Hala Kmeid?

When asked about the future, Kmeid’s response is characteristically forward-looking: “Only time can tell … But for sure more and more challenges, and never a minute of break”.

For a woman who built a global tech presidency on a foundation of law, resilience, and a commitment to justice, that seems exactly the right answer.

Hala Kmeid is Global President of BarCloud and holds a Master’s degree in Private Law from Université Saint-Joseph, along with a certificate in Strategic Project Management from Harvard University. She previously served as a Parliamentary Legal Advisor to the Lebanese Parliament and as Legal Advisor to the CEO of Orascom Telecom Lebanon.

Editor’s Note

A resume. That is all I had. Then I started reading.

Some careers follow a straight line. Hala Kmeid’s looks more like a map of detours. Fifteen years in law, courts, parliaments, and boardrooms. Then she walked into a tech company and never looked back.

But what stopped me was not the Global President title. It was how she talked about loss, both parents in the same year, and how it forged her. No polish. No script. Just honesty.

In fact, I found a Q&A from 2020 where she said something that stuck with me: “I love challenges, and the fact that I come from a very different background added to it.” She took that challenge to heart and never looked back. And when the pandemic hit, her company’s Enterprise License tracked supplies across hospitals and government entities in Washington DC.

Here is the thing: most executive women protect their narratives carefully. Not Hala. She owns the detour. She fights for women’s rights not as a talking point, but as a personal conviction. Ask her about the one law she would change. No hesitation: the right of Lebanese women to pass nationality to their children.

That honesty felt different. That is why I wanted her here.

I hope her story lingers with you. It should. Reinvention is never easy. But it is always necessary.
