Dear You, Who Feels the Clock Ticking – By Dr. Zeina Ghossoub

I know what it’s like to be over 30 and feel as if time has suddenly turned into a race you didn’t sign up for. One day, the “biological clock” was just a phrase you’d hear in passing. The next, it became the background music to every thought, every date, every glance at a friend’s wedding photos or baby announcement.

It is not just about biology. It is about the unspoken rules, the expectations, the whispered questions at family gatherings, and the silent comparisons you make when you see others “ahead” of you. Somewhere along the way, love stopped feeling like an adventure and started feeling like a deadline.

And I see you. I see how exhausting it is to turn every date into a subtle job interview, to feel that every month without progress is a month lost. I see how you wonder if maybe you are being too picky, or if maybe you should settle for “good enough” just to calm the panic.

But here’s the thing. Love is not a finish line you rush toward. The person who sweeps you off your feet may not be the person you can build a steady, beautiful life with. That is not a failure. That is wisdom. Some loves are meant to change you, not keep you. And saying goodbye to a love that cannot grow is not losing time—it is saving your future.

I know it’s tempting to think the solution is speed. To hold on to whoever is “there” because you fear there may be no one else. But speed will never give you peace. Clarity will. And clarity comes when you shift the question from “How fast can I get there?” to “Who am I becoming while I wait?”

There is courage in holding your standards when everyone else seems to be moving on. There is strength in saying no to a life that is almost right, because you are holding out for one that truly is. And there is freedom in remembering that your worth is not measured by a marriage certificate or the size of your family.

Yes, the clock may keep ticking. But you can quiet the noise it makes inside you. Build a life so rich, so full, so deeply your own, that when love arrives—whether soon or later—you will not be desperate to grab it. You will be ready to receive it. Not because you ran fast enough to catch it, but because you stood still long enough to recognize it.

And that, my dear, is when time will feel like it’s on your side again.
